Tomgram: Howard Zinn, The End of Empire?
A quote...."In Iraq, in Afghanistan, and at home, the position of the globe's "sole superpower" is visibly fraying. The country that was once proclaimed an "empire lite" has proven increasingly light-headed. The country once hailed as a power greater than that of imperial Rome or imperial Britain, a dominating force beyond anything ever seen on the planet, now can't seem to make a move in its own interest that isn't a disaster. The Iraq government's recent offensive in Basra is but the latest example with -- we can be sure -- more to come."

Bankrupt And Audacious - posted at Counter Currents
A quote...."How can a morally bankrupt nation induce the world to punish a law-abiding state and by so doing, violate not only international law, that of the nonproliferation treaty (NPT), but the Geneva Conventions? Sanctions are warfare. It cost Iraq over half a million innocent lives, a genocide, in preparation for the ‘shock and awe’ that was to come. America and her co-conspirators violated all Geneva Conventions when the sanctions were imposed – lives were snatched -“collateral damage” they called it. This rogue state, America, in violation of all laws, God’s and man’s, is dictating to the world, demanding that all countries join it in its march towards more infamy – total moral bankruptcy, to claim yet more lives."

Understanding U.S. Global Policies a Must for Understanding U.S. Domestic policies
A quote...."We cannot expect corporations to have a social conscience when capitalism’s economics compels them to either PROFIT or BUST. It’s the SYSTEM , not the corporations, that causes our high cost of living while our wages remain unable to keep up without going into debt. No social conscience in the economic system of capitalism. We can do better, as is comprehensively explained at.…http://www.peopleforanewsociety.org/

Opposition To Treasury's Blueprint Gains Steam
A quote...."Senior Treasury officials identified three immediate targets yesterday for their plan to overhaul the nation's financial regulatory structure, including streamlining the approval process for securities that contributed to the crisis now roiling Wall Street. But their hopes for a few quick changes are running into mounting opposition from interest groups and officials elsewhere in the Bush administration."  --  Now why would officials within the Bush administration be apposed to this plan? Paulson's proposal is simply following in the footsteps of what the Bush administration has already done to the entire Federal Government, massive concentration of power in the hands of a few individuals with little or no regulation or legal oversight.  Let's all remember these quotes and actions....."I'm the decider" (Bush), the signing statements, Homeland Security, the "Geneva Conventions are quaint" (Gonzales), "stop throwing the constitution in my face" (Bush), "I'm the war president" (Bush), retroactive immunity for war crimes, retroactive immunity for the Telecoms, no more Habeas Corpus, no more FISA act, "we don't do torture" (Goss), and the list goes on and on and on. Basically, regarding Paulson's proposal, no regulations, laws or agreements will be honored, power will be vested in his hands, and he'll become the "financial decider" --  How could any Bush official possibly complain about that? - mpg

If We Go To War With Iran, Who Will You Blame?
War Warning - A quote...."Who will be blamed if Bush and Cheney suddenly strike Iran, as the Russian Intelligence Services and other sources are are implying? The knee-jerk reaction will be to blame Bush and Cheney, who are to blame, however we must remember that it takes more than two men to start a war! Who is it that is enabling these warmongers to endanger every citizen in the United States? The elements of corporate America and the military that support another war have to be considered, but ultimately, they can only pull-off another attack if the public is largely unaware of their plans. It’s time to be realistic and place the blame squarely where it belongs, on America’s Mainstream News Media!"

Israel conducts War Games directed against Iran and Syria

Cheney's and Maliki's new war in Iraq - Tuesday round-up - 7 articles - [ Day 8 ]

Why al-Maliki attacked Basra
A quote...."April 1, 2008 | Why did Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki attack the Mahdi army in Basra last week? -- Despite the cease-fire called Sunday by Shiite leader Sayyid Muqtada al-Sadr, leader of the millions-strong Sadr Movement, last week's battles between the Mahdi army and the Iraqi army revealed the continued weakness and instability of al-Maliki's government." -- Of all the afflictions Iraq must suffer, it must now suffer Maliki, a diseased pustule on the face of that tortured land, a sickly little lap dog that resembles a man but is the kept pet of his lord and master, Dick Cheney.  Maliki has given up all pretensions of trying to bring democracy to Iraq and has sold his soul so he can cravenly cling to power and to the pants leg of his master.  His actions have already resulted in the deaths of over five hundred Iraqis, and he intends to kill many, many more.  God rot him. - mpg

Badr, Sadr, let's call the whole thing off
A quote...."I haven't seen a compelling explanation yet for why Prime Minister al-Maliki and his scircle thought a frontal assault on the Mahdi Army was a particularly good idea at this time, but it's easy to see why everybody (including al-Sadr) was quick to back away from the precipice -- simply put, the mess they had before was a lot preferable to the one they were getting into."

Surge Success Runs Into Sadr
A quote...."As the fifth year of U.S. discontent came and went, presidential candidates jousted with each other about how best to assuage the fears of ordinary citizens over a war that – in nearly all estimates – has gone terribly wrong."

McCain: 'Surprised'; Fighting Subsides in Baghdad, Basra; Analysts: Sadr Strengthened
A quote...."John McCain said he was surprised that Nuri al-Maliki would abruptly launch an operation against Basra. It seems to me that there are only two possibilities here. - Either McCain really did not know and did not anticipate the trouble in Basra, in which case he does not know much about Iraq and isn't better qualified to deal with it than anyone else. - Or, he and Cheney helped put al-Maliki up to the whole thing while he was there, and now is petrified that someone will hang the fiasco around his neck." -- *Juan Cole"

American embassy to move into a secret place
A quote...."With this morning attack on the Green Zone claimed by the “Muslimeen Army” = part of Jihad and Reform Front Sunni resistance group, contrary to the American claims saying “Mahdi Army”, the group also claims all the attacks at the last three days, al-Arab reported that the American ambassador gave his instruction to the embassy staff since Saturday to move the embassy into a “secret place” at the west of Baghdad."

Sadr loyalists warn of end to cease-fire
A quote...."BAGHDAD -- Loyalists of Shiite cleric Muqtada Sadr today accused government forces of breaching a cease-fire with continued raids in the southern city of Basra and threatened a "return to conflict." -- The warning came just a day after Basra and Baghdad felt the full effect of the cease-fire, which Sadr called late Sunday following five days of clashes between Shiite militiamen and Iraqi and U.S. forces."

In contrast, the Navy’s premiere gun, the Mark 45 five-inch gun, has a range of nearly 20 miles. The high velocity projectile will destroy its targets due to its kinetic energy rather than with conventional explosives."

Manipulations of Capital
A quote...."Let's begin with what serves as the devastating background to the drama being played out on financial markets in the United States first of all (but not only!). Every time the Fed lowers its interest rates, it weakens the dollar still further. Unlike his predecessor (and intercessor) Alan Greenspan, Ben Bernanke relies entirely on a cynical calculation. American monetary authorities' room for maneuver only appears as large as it does because they've transferred their main responsibility onto other people: safeguarding the dollar."

Only the money is cheap
A quote...." The Bear Stearns bailout and the associated calls for further Federal intervention in the mortgage market have highlighted once again an eternal economic truth: in an era of excessively cheap money, only the money is cheap. Those who control oil and water will control the world

At present, a race for the world's resources is underway that resembles the Great Game that was played in the decades leading up to the First World War. Now, as then, the most coveted prize is oil and the risk is that as the contest heats up it will not always be peaceful. But this is no simple rerun of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Failure of the US Sponsored Assault: Learn The Lessons of Basra
A quote...."If it is true, that political forces in Iran did contribute to preventing the explosive conflict in Basra from careening totally out of control, then that means that prevailing attitudes and preconceptions in Washington have been shown to be totally bankrupt. If cooler heads exist in Washington, especially among the military, they must draw the lessons from the last week's events, and seek to finally introduce an element of rationality into U.S. foreign policy for the region."

Iraq in the Balance
A quote...."I scanned the Sunday talk shows and was amazed, even by the normally lowbrow standards of these programs, at the infantile level of discussion about Iraq. In concept, the Sunday shows offer a chance to drill down a bit deeper into the facts behind the news—to reach a level of detail that cannot be reached in the daily news broadcasts. For many decades they served that purpose, more or less. Today they have degenerated into extended opportunities for political sound bites, in which even the most idiotic statements rarely go challenged, and in the worst of which (generally on Fox), the punditry whip themselves into a cappuccino froth of distortions and idiocies."

Less regulation, More Power to the Fed
Must Read - A quote...." 31/03/08 "ICH" -- -It is being billed as a “massive shakeup of US financial market regulation”, but don't be deceived. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson's proposals for broad market reform are neither “timely” nor “thoughtful” (Reuters) In fact, its all just more of the same free market “we can police ourselves” mumbo jumbo that got us into this mess in the first place. The real objective of Paulson's so called reforms is to decapitate the SEC and increase the powers of the Federal Reserve. Same wine, different bottle. Paulson's real motive is to preempt the regulatory sledgehammer that is set to descend on the entire financial industry following the 2008 election. There's growing fear that a President Obama may tote his firehose down to Wall Street and flush out some of the debris that has collected in the market's dark corners."

Bad Times Coming

The Federal Reserve under Fire, Part Two
A quote...."President Eisenhower, in the face of the relatively mild recession of 1958, resisted the harangue of Republicans in Congress to cut taxes and, in so doing, was able to oversee a government that had several years of balanced budgets. He argued that the huge tax cuts of 1954 had been enough in the way of fiscal stimulus, and he was proud to point out that the majority of the money from that round of tax cuts had gone to people of more modest means. The fiscal discipline he imposed as chief executive officer of the United States would prove exceptional, particularly in light of the howl from his own Republican Party as it obsessively paraded its pandering wares for the low-taxes crowd of that day."

UBS plans $19 bln write-down, capital injection
A quote...."LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Swiss banking giant UBS on Tuesday revealed a further $19 billion hit from the credit crisis, doubling its write-downs so far, and said it will have to issue around 15 billion Swiss francs ($15.1 billion) in new shares to shore up its capital base." -- And the hits keep coming....two trillion more to go. - mpg

A third American war crime in the making
Must Read - A quote...."The US Congress, the US media, the American people, and the United Nations, are looking the other way as Cheney prepares his attack on Iran. -- If only America had an independent media and an opposition party. If there were a shred of integrity left in American political life, perhaps a third act of naked aggression -- a third war crime under the Nuremberg standard -- by the Bush Regime could be prevented."

The Great American Disconnect
Must Read - A quote...."The failing economy, the decaying infrastructure, the apparent indifference that Americans seem to feel about their kid’s futures are accepted as a matter of course. The war that consumes their sons and daughters as cannon fodder is just another slap in the face that Americans have resigned themselves to. The once, good paying jobs that included health care and other benefits are gone, replaced with low paying jobs without benefits or security. Americans have had to adjust to a diminished standard of living. They’ve become jaded, cynically indifferent, and many pause to wonder what they’ve traded for a 30 year mortgage, an undependable income, and their ever growing debt."

Our Learned Helplessness
A quote...."Yes, V is right. There is something terribly wrong with this country - and this could be referring to almost any country on the globe, since Pathocracy has taken global control. It actually makes sense for psychopaths to act as they do as such is their nature. But what about the rest of us? How is it that "fear got the best of us", and why is it that a paralyzing fear descends upon us when we consider resisting? Why is it that thoughts of "them" coming for us and locking us away, overshadow our truest human desires for Freedom, Love, Truth?"

VIDEO: Bush booed as he throws inaugural pitch at Nationals home opener
Video - A quote...."President Bush met with a mixed reception this evening as he threw the 2008 inaugural pitch at the new Nationals Park, built for the Washington Nationals baseball team."

It was really fun to hear the announcer try to ameliorate the boooos Bush was receiving by reminding the audience how Bush didn't just go up to the front of the mound like other presidents, no, instead he stood on top just like he did after September 11 2001, isn't that sooooo sweet?  The mass-media...always plugging for the man who wasn't legally elected in the last two elections and whose entire family and most of his "friends" are heavily implicated in what can only be described as a highly suspicious and prejudicial chain of events leading up to 9/11.

Remember this is the man who dragged his feet for a whole year and who was forced to set up the commission by the families of the 9/11 victims. This is the man that refused to testify under oath, refused to testify for more than one hour and refused to testify without being accompaynied by Dick Cheney.

This is the man who refused to extend the commission’s mandate to investigates 9/11 or even give additional funding for the commission to continue its investigation.....to quote "Bush's obstruction of the investigation began coming into focus last March when Time Magazine reported that the White House brushed off a request made by the 9-11 Commission Chairman Tom Kean, the Republican former governor of New Jersey, to boost his budget by $11 million."  and  “The panel has until the end of May 2004 to complete its work, but it will spend the $3 million it was originally allotted by around August 2003" - (they eventually, after kicking and screaming, got a total of 15 million)

MY GAWD!!  Three whole million dollars!!!   Think of that America!!  What a terrible burden that would have been for this country to have spent one penny more??  WOW !!!  This editor had absolutely no idea it was that much.  Jesus Christ you mean they wasted a whole three million dollars on the 9/11 investigation....what's this country coming too??

For GOD’S sake the whole bloody freaking war based on Bush’s constant repetition of 9/11 only cost three million dollars....or is this editor missing a few zeros?

To every true American out there, think about just how dumb that announcer made this entire country look, think about just how stupid we appear to the entire world.

Think about it.

Ohhhhh, Ahhaaaa.....he stood on top of the mound, that’s the important thing. - mpg

Year Six of the Occupation

The Mystery of American Foreign Policy

Their sacred Surge has turned into a mere splurge – of resources, lives, and misplaced hope. Well, I could have told you that, and, indeed, I did. But never mind the chattering classes, their delusions of American omnipotence, and my own unfortunate penchant for self-congratulation. What's really fascinating about this story is how it underscores the central mystery of our Iraq war policy: why in the name of all that's holy are we supporting the pro-Iranian parties and factions in the Iraqi government, whilst Our Glorious Leader is coupling Tehran and al-Qaeda as "twin" evils to be fought and defeated in Iraq?"

Must See - Video - From the movie "Network" - 1976 satire - Here, made known to you lowly mortals as inscribed in the Great Book of Lex Duodecim Tabularum, contained within the secret Thirteenth Table “Amor Nummi”, is written the sacred prayer of the Neo-Liberals  -- Praise the Almighty Corporation!! For I have seen the coming of His glory, the shining of His guiding light.  He is here to punish the unbelievers who doubt His powers, He is here to show His infinite strength of arms against those who are wicked, those who do not worship the blessed token He has placed here on Earth to serve His needs, the Mighty Dollar. Behold as He unleashes His righteous wrath against those who trespass against His bottom line, as He spares not the rod, the Mighty Military Industrial Complex, against all those who are led astray from the true path of endless profit by their lack of faith.  Watch in wonder as His blessings rain down upon this world bringing fire and death to those Corporatless heathens who still occupy His lands.  Witness their terrible downfall for their retched failure to recognize His Holiness and pay proper tribute. Tremble in Awe and Rapture as thee Almighty Corporation rightly assumes complete dominion over this earthly plane....Hallelujah!! Hallelujah!!....praise thy Corporation for His Kingdom has come and we are finally saved my brothers and sisters...we are all finally saved!!    - mpg

Cheney's and Maliki's new war in Iraq - Friday round-up - 8 articles - [Day 4]

Areas of Baghdad fall to militias as Iraqi Army falters in Basra
A quote...."Iraq’s Prime Minister was staring into the abyss today after his operation to crush militia strongholds in Basra stalled, members of his own security forces defected and district after district of his own capital fell to Shia militia gunmen. -- With the threat of a civil war looming in the south, Nouri al-Maliki’s police chief in Basra narrowly escaped assassination in the crucial port city, while in Baghdad, the spokesman for the Iraqi side of the US military surge was kidnapped by gunmen and his house burnt to the ground.

Iraqi police in Basra shed their uniforms, kept their rifles and switched sides
A quote...."Abu Iman barely flinched when the Iraqi Government ordered his unit of special police to move against al-Mahdi Army fighters in Basra. -- His response, while swift, was not what British and US military trainers who have spent the past five years schooling the Iraqi security forces would have hoped for. He and 15 of his comrades took off their uniforms, kept their government-issued rifles and went over to the other side without a second thought.  --  Naturally, why would they want to literally kill their brothers and sisters?  So far the American plan of "divide and conquer" -- (The PNAC & DPG protocols, the "Shock Doctrine", P2OG, the "El Salvador Option", "Constructive Instability" and "The Method") -- first demonstrated when the US "played" Iraq against Iran, and again when Negroponte brought in all those former experts from Central America to set-up death squads and play the Shi'a, Sunni and Kurds against each other, has been an outstanding success at "reducing" Iraq to its present impoverished, moribund, "fractured or fractionated" state.  A quite deliberate and methodical process of "politically atomizing" a society so that it can be better controlled, more easily made to conform and later re-built into whatever structure is desired. They do it to prisoners, to new army recruits, as well as whole societies.  Tear-down and than re-build is their motto.  But trying to play the sectarian groups against each other in their own neighborhoods is just a lot more difficult because they actually know, and are related to each other....one would guess to get around these unpleasant realities, the US will decide to conduct even more bombings then they already have....or perhaps the US could bring in different sectarian groups from other cities in Iraq, groups that would have less qualms about murdering their fellow Muslims.  Now wouldn't that be a great idea?? - mpg

Police refuse to support Iraqi PM's attacks on Mehdi Army
A quote...."US and British forces are increasingly playing a supporting role in the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's stalled offensive against the Mehdi Army militia. American aircraft launched air strikes in Basra yesterday and fought militiamen on the streets in Baghdad while British advisers have also been assisting Iraqi troops in Basra."   --  And each day it goes on means more dead and dying Iraqis.... Maliki has committed political suicide. - mpg

Iraq battle deadlock
Video - A quote...."US bombs Baghdad's Sadr City as rockets and mortars hit Green Zone again. Militants defy curfew in Basra"

Iraqi military fumbling badly in Basra
A quote...."The Iraqi military push into Basra is not going as well as US officials had hoped, a closely held US military intelligence analysis shows. -- The analysis shows that Iraqi security forces control less than a quarter of the city, said several officials in both the US and Iraq on Friday, CNN reported. -- It also indicated that Basra's police units are deeply infiltrated by members of radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's Mehdi Army."

Iraqi militia success means Britain must fight – or admit failure
A quote...."The battle for Basra now raging on the streets of Iraq’s second city shows every sign of turning into a nightmare for the dwindling British forces based near by."

Mahdi Army Stands Firm in its Basra Neighborhoods; Demonstrations in Baghdad against al-Maliki
A quote...."People are asking me the significance of the fighting going on in Basra and elsewhere. My reading is that the US faced a dilemma in Iraq. It needed to have new provincial elections in an attempt to mollify the Sunni Arabs, especially in Sunni-majority provinces like Diyala, which has nevertheless been ruled by the Shiite Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq. But if they have provincial elections, their chief ally, the Islamic Supreme Council, might well lose southern provinces to the Sadr Movement. In turn, the Sadrists are demanding a timetable for US withdrawal, whereas ISCI wants US troops to remain. So the setting of October, 2008, as the date for provincial elections provoked this crisis. I think Cheney probably told ISCI and Prime Minister al-Maliki that the way to fix this problem and forestall the Sadrists oming to power in Iraq, was to destroy the Mahdi Army, the Sadrists' paramilitary. Without that coercive power, the Sadrists might not remain so important, is probably their thinking. I believe them to be wrong, and suspect that if the elections are fair, the Sadrists will sweep to power and may even get a sympathy vote. It is admittedly a big 'if.'" -- *Juan Cole*

UK/US backed attack on Basra aims to break popular and trade union resistance
A quote...."The attacking forces now besieging Basra stretched all the way to the city from Dhi Qar province. Two armoured divisions are deployed, in addition to thousands of policemen, backed by US and British planning and air cover. -- They have cut off electricity supplies, food and water on the city of 1.5 million people. Hundreds have been killed or injured in a savage, premeditated and unprovoked attack, now spreading to much of Iraq as the people protest and show solidarity with Basra’s beleaguered people."

Who is the Iraqi Army?
Special Note - A quote...."The Bush administration claims the Iraqi Army is a unified force of Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds who fight together for the centralized government of Iraq. That's complete nonsense. -- In fact, the different divisions of the army are segregated by sect. The so-called Iraqi Army fighting in the south right now is mainly the Badr Corps. This is a rival Shiite militia to Muqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi Army."

Rudd's troop withdrawal leaves Bush alone on Iraq
A quote...."KEVIN RUDD was to formally tell the US President, George Bush, yesterday that Australia would withdraw its combat troops from Iraq and compensate by increasing financial and humanitarian help and by training Iraqi security forces outside the country."

A de facto calm
A quote...."While Israeli officials continue to deny they are engaged in either direct or indirect talks with Hamas, the uneasy calm along the Israel-Gaza border has held for a third consecutive week, despite Israeli provocations."

Israel: Hezbollah increases rocket range
A quote...."The Lebanese group has acquired new Iranian rockets with a range of about 185 miles, the officials said Wednesday. That means the guerrillas can hit anywhere in Israel's heavily populated center and reach as far south as Dimona, where Israel's nuclear reactor is located."

Rabbi calls for hanging Arab children from trees
A quote...."A state that really respects the lives of its citizens would have hanged the 10 sons of the terrorist on a tree 50 amot [25 meters] tall, so that others would see it and be afraid," wrote Eliahu, according to the Jerusalem Post."

U.S. visit to Pakistan shows 'panic,' expert says

UN Says 'Network', Not Syria, Killed Hariri
A quote...."A UN commission investigating the death of former Lebanese PM Rafik Hariri says the evidence suggests a network of people was responsible for the attack. -- No individuals were named, but the investigators said what it called the "Hariri Network" might also be behind other deadly attacks in Lebanon." -- Uh....yeah....networks usually are the ones to assassinate people, if the UN can't identify who this network works for because they're free lance.  This editor suggests the UN "follows the money" to find out who paid them. - mpg

Al Jazeera facing staff crisis
Special Note - A quote...."English Al Jazeera is reportedly in crisis as it faces financial cutbacks and big-names are resigning over concerns about editorial control. - The news channel has been the subject of speculation in recent months as it had seen financial cutbacks and that more than 15 staff members had left in recent months, The Guardian this week reported. - It is reported that management at the English-language channel's headquarters in Doha, Qatar has reportedly been struggling to contain a staff revolt."

NPR News: National Pentagon Radio?
A quote...."While the Iraqi government continued its large-scale military assault in Basra, the NPR reporter’s voice from Iraq was unequivocal on the morning of March 27: "There is no doubt that this operation needed to happen." -- Such flat-out statements, uttered with journalistic tones and without attribution, are routine for the U.S. media establishment. In the "War Made Easy" documentary film, I put it this way: "If you’re pro-war, you’re objective. But if you’re anti-war, you’re biased. And often, a news anchor will get no flak at all for making statements that are supportive of a war and wouldn’t dream of making a statement that’s against a war."

Net Neutrality’s Quiet Crusader
A quote...."Bearing video cameras, laptops and cellphones, a small army of young activists flooded into a recent federal meeting in protest. -- Members of public-interest group Free Press weren’t there to support a presidential candidate or decry global warming. The tech-savvy hundreds came to the Federal Communications Commission’s hearing at Harvard Law School last month to push new rules for the Internet."

Undisputed Facts Point to the Controlled Demolition of WTC 7

I represent Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, a fast-growing body of more than 230 architects and engineers dedicated solely to bringing out the truth about all three high-rise building collapses on 9/11. We believe that we have answers to your questions about the puzzling collapse of World Trade Center 7."

Related article - A quote...."Richard Gage AIA, the founder of Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth, and hundreds of other industry experts' call for a new investigation into the collapse of the WTC twin towers and Building 7 is gaining strength following revelations of falsification and cover-up in relation to the FEMA-funded inquiry into the destruction of the buildings on 9/11."

September 11 was a third-rate operation
A quote...."In late April of 2001, just five months before the September 11 attack date, Mohamed Atta was stopped for driving erratically late at night near Ft Lauderdale, Florida. By then, the pilots all had their licenses, final-phase planning must have been under way. Yet, here was Osama bin Laden's field commander for the entire operation, driving a red Pontiac (though 15 years old), with Arabic stickers, and no driver's license, or at least none he would show. -- The author of this article doesn't believe 9/11 was a false flag operation....but after reading his description of the "suspects" behavior and actions prior to 9/11, a reasonable person, even if he didn't believe the false flag scenario, might suspect "malign neglect" on the part of our wealthy elites. Economic Cycles and Political Trends in the United States
Must Read - A quote...."Sometimes we measure these cycles from bottom to bottom, and sometimes from top to top. For the 10-year cycle (the Juglar cycle), it often coincides with normal recurring recessions. In the U.S., there were recessions, for example, in 1969, in 1973-75, in 1980 and 1981-82, in 1990-91 and in 2001, most of them within about a 9-10 year interval. According to this cycle, there could be a somewhat severe recession in 2010-11, possibly following the slowdown or recession expected to occur this year. -- What is of interest is that the real estate cycle or housing cycle (the Kuznets cycle) is also scheduled to bottom in this period. This is a cycle of about 12 years of price increase and of 5 or 6 years of price decline. The previous cycle, from top to top went from 1987 to the spring of 2005. A bottom would therefore be normal in 2010-11 and a future top around 2023." -- For more on this issue see....Effective Fed Funds Rate 03-24-07 - mpg

Reviving the R.T.C. - The Next Big Plan From The Bernanke Politburo
Must Read - A quote...." 28/03/08 "ICH' -- - The Federal Reserve is presently considering an emergency operation that is so risky it could send the dollar slip-sliding over the cliff. The story appeared in the Financial Times earlier this week and claimed that the Fed was examining the feasibility of buying back hundreds of billions of dollars of mortgage-backed securities (MBS) with public money to restore investor confidence and clear the struggling banks' balance sheets. The Fed, of course, denied the allegations, but the rumors abound."

Das Phony Capital
A quote...."The Wall Street Journal calls the last ten years a "lost decade" for stockholders. The S&P is now about where it was in 1999. Stock market investors are ten years older and wiser; but not a penny richer."

Fed Offers $100 Billion More to Banks
A quote...."WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Federal Reserve announced Friday it will auction an additional $100 billion in April to cash-strapped banks as it continues to combat the effects of a credit crisis. -- The central bank said it would make $50 billion available at each of two auctions, on April 7 and April 21."

The Proof Is in: Third-World Debt Is Erasable
A quote...."A question arises in consequence: why have the banks, which do not hesitate today to erase doubtful debts in the tens of billions of dollars, always refused to annul developing countries’ debt? They are demonstrating that it’s possible and altogether necessary. Let us remember that criminal dictatorships, corrupt regimes, and leaders faithful to the great powers obtained the debts the banks presently claim. The big banks lent sums without count to regimes as disreputable as those of Mobutu in Zaire, Suharto in Indonesia, the Latin American dictatorships of the 1970s-1980s, without forgetting the Apartheid regime in South Africa. -- How can they continue to inflict the yoke of this debt on the peoples who suffered these dictatorial regimes the banks themselves financed? -- Because the "banks" (Loan Sharks Inc.) spent good money bribing all those unpleasant people to take their ridiculous over-priced loans.- mpg

Dollar Posts Biggest Weekly Decline Against Euro Since 2006
A quote...."March 28 (Bloomberg) -- The dollar posted the biggest weekly drop against the euro in more than two years as traders increased bets the Federal Reserve will cut borrowing costs further while the European Central Bank holds rates steady."

Consumer Spending Weak in February
A quote...."WASHINGTON (AP) - Consumers, jolted by a credit crisis, job cuts and soaring energy costs, turned in the weakest spending performance in 17 months in February, further evidence that the risks of a recession are increasing."

U.S. markets seen losing ground to global competitors
Special Note - Some quotes...."The United States received only 6.9 percent of the funds raised in global initial public offerings in 2007 and did not participate in any of the top 20 global IPOs, Harvard Law School Professor Hal Scott said at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's second annual capital markets conference." -- "Scott also noted that many foreign companies in 2007 took advantage of a U.S. regulatory change that let them delist from U.S. exchanges. About 15 percent of U.S.-listed foreign companies left the U.S. markets in 2007, about three times the historical rate, he said."

The conclusion of the committee...."highlighting the need to streamline regulation and crack down on excessive securities litigation"....you see the committe's conclusion in light of the current Banking/Brokerage crisis is we need even LESS regulation so we can fob off on the rest of the unsuspecting world even more of those worthless synthetic securities.

This editor thinks the committee members missed the point, (that’s putting it mildly), the reason the world doesn't want to do business here is because to do business with an organized crime syndicate of murdering, whacked out, psychotic, thugs who've broken or shredded every international treaty along with their own constitution, can't even take care of their own currency, and have just sold the world trillions of dollars of bogus paper....is because it’s likely to get you both poor and dead.

Outcomes most people generally try to avoid.

Truth In War Is Always Subversive.
Must Read - A quote...." 27/03/08 "ICH" -- -- I would stroll past the Hotel Royale in Saigon and look up at the corner balcony on the first floor and see him there, camera resting on his arm. A greeting in Welsh might drift down. Or his take-off of an insane American colonel we both knew. What was he doing? Best to be patient; but this had gone on for days."

Where Matters Stand
Must Read - A quote...."We live at a time in which collective insanity has become the norm by which human behavior is to be judged. The willingness of men and women to commit their thinking, their lives, their material wealth, and the lives of their children and grandchildren to wars, genocides, torture, police-state brutalities, and the destruction of economies, reflects the danger in all forms of collective identity. To the union of fifty states with which we are familiar, has been added another: the state of non compos mentis, in which most Americans have taken up residence."

Bush and Bin Laden's virtual war
Must Read - A quote...."To contemplate a prewar map of Baghdad - as I do the one before me, with sectarian neighborhoods traced out in blue and red and yellow - is to look back on a lost Baghdad, a Baghdad of our dreams. My map of 2003 is colored mostly a rather neutral yellow, indicating the "mixed" neighborhoods of the city, predominant just five years ago. -- To take up a contemporary map after this is to be confronted by a riot of bright color: Shi'ite blue has moved in irrevocably from the east of the Tigris River; Sunni red has fled before it, as Shi'ite militias pushed the Sunnis inexorably west toward Abu Ghraib and Anbar province, and nearly out of the capital itself. And everywhere, it seems, the pale yellow of those mixed neighborhoods is gone, obliterated in the months and years of sectarian war.  --  a.k.a . The PNAC & DPG protocols, the "Shock Doctrine", P2OG & the "El Salvador Option"...by any other name it means death and destruction wherever America (the New Roman Empire) goes. - mpg

Pakistan's new leaders tell US: We are no longer your killing field
Must Read - A quote...."The Bush administration is scrambling to engage with Pakistan's new rulers as power flows from its strong ally, President Pervez Musharraf, to a powerful civilian government buoyed by anti-American sentiment. - Top diplomats John Negroponte and Richard Boucher travelled to a mountain fortress near the Afghan border yesterday as part of a hastily announced visit that has received a tepid reception. - On Tuesday, senior coalition partner Nawaz Sharif gave the visiting Americans a public scolding for using Pakistan as a "killing field" and relying too much on Musharraf."  --  Check out the comments, they're outstanding !! -- The Pakistanis are aware of what the Neo-Romans are capable of, and they don't want any part of it. -- For more on this issue see....It Will Happen Every Single Time
