American Public Rejects Media
Special Note - A quote...."A new media deal? This trend is being confirmed by the Pew Research Center Institute. Even though TV remains the most used information source in the U.S., the public now consults internet news sources as often as the traditional paper press. One thing, however, continues to increase: skepticism towards the media."

Washington's Kleptocratic State: 'More Communist Than China'
A quote...."Unlike the Creator, Who rested from his labors on the seventh day, the architects of our kleptocratic State do their most important work over the weekend. - The arrival of each week's two-day market sabbath is heralded by the announcement of yet another bank failure tied to the collapse of the real estate/mortgage/debt refinancing bubble, with the bad tidings disclosed after the final bell sounds on Wall Street."

The Federal Reserve's War Against the Human Race
A quote...."American foreign policy is corrupted by a powerful influence so arrogantly reckless it endangers the human race. Pakistan: The War Party's New Frontier -- The more things change…
A quote...."What a world! What a world!" That's what the Wicked Witch of the West exclaimed as she melted in one of the final scenes of The Wizard of Oz, and today her plaintive cry seems the only possible reaction to the headlines reporting trouble every which way: Pakistan about to explode, the Taliban retaking Afghanistan, Iran spreading its influence deep into "liberated" Iraq, and a new cold war brewing in the steppes of the Caucasus. From Eastern Europe to the Far Eastern reaches of Central Asia, a storm is gathering. Whoever is president in 2009 is going to be facing some of the most dangerous crises since the Great War, when a single shot fired in Sarajevo sparked a global conflagration, giving rise to two world wars and the bloodiest century in the history of mankind."

US 'in need of rebellion'
Ain't ever gonna happen.  Sixty percent of this nation's population are money worshipping idolaters, those little green pieces of paper the elites keep printing are gods to them and are more important to them than covenants such as the constitution of the United States, their freedoms as enumerated in the bill of rights, or even the lives and well being of themselves or their families, much less the lives and well being of foreigners.  This will never change. - mpg -- A quote...."Al Jazeera speaks to Howard Zinn, the author, American historian, social critic and activist, about how the Iraq war damaged attitudes towards the US and why the US "empire" is close to collapse." -- Also posted at CommonDreams & ICH

A quote...."Conventions, as a means of amending written constitutions, are a distinctly American institution. In fact, written constitutions originated in this country. Living Peacefully & The Nature of the Beast
09-09-08
mpg

The Nature of the Beast... [Is to "play" off the tribes and nations against each other untill "it" wins. - mpg]
A quote...."Native Americans lived for scores of years in Chicago, on the shores of Lake Michigan...They lived peacefully until the year 1673 when a traveler and mapmaker by the name of Louis Joliet, accompanied by a French Jesuit monk named Jacques Marquette "discovered" Chicago. Soon thousands of colonists descended upon it just like ants on a pot of honey."

Now the author's blast at "Amerika" and her contention that Iraqis were living "peacefully" is not quite an accurate reflection of the true state of affairs and needs some clarification.  After all, stating Iraq was "living peacefully" before the US's second invasion of that country reflects poorly on the US and its current policies.

One has to keep in mind that it was the US's CIA which helped Saddam into power, supplied him with lists of thousands of "leftists" all of whom we encouraged him to round up and murder.  It was also the US which thought it would be a real nifty idea if he would invade Iran and it was official US policy (think that photo of a happy smiling Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam) to supply, and encourage many other countries to supply, as much armaments as possible to "bleed both sides" in the war, including those lovely gas weapons which Saddam used on some of his own people (with nary a word of discouragement from the US).

After that exhausting seven year struggle it was the US who slyly told Kuwait pump as much oil as possible to prevent Saddam and Iraq from recovering from the war while at the same time telling our ambassador to Iraq April Glispie  to give the green light to the -- by than -- highly irritated, short of funds, Saddam, regarding his upcoming planned invasion of Kuwait.

And of course after the invasion and the US's subsequent deployment of forces throughout Saudi Arabia, the Gulf Emirates and Kuwait, it was the US who than encouraged the Kurds and Shi'as to "rise up" against Saddam only to later stand idly by, watching while Saddam crushed them.

And finally let’s not forgot it was the US imposed sanctions which according to many estimates resulted in the premature deaths of over five hundred thousand Iraqi children.  A tragedy commented on by none other than Madeleine Albright who, when asked about these terrible losses, stated rather pithily "we think the price is worth it."

On second thought....maybe it's better if we think of Iraq as just living "peacefully". - mpg

The Lies and Crimes of 911: A Canadian View of the War on Terror's Origins
A quote...."During this, the season of the seventh anniversary of 911, we must continue to increase the effectiveness of our transnational peace lobby aimed at extending the Nuremberg process towards an international investigation into the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in the name of the War on Terror. Such an investigation must begin by asking some foundational questions about the underlying crime that gave rise to the War on Terror. Were the events of 911 orchestrated by a very different cast of characters and for very different motives than those identified in the trial by media that began with unseemly haste on the very day of the Great Shock?[i] Is the War on Terror a War on Truth? The Top Ten Connections Between NIST and Nano-Thermites
A quote...."The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has had considerable difficulty determining a politically correct sequence of events for the unprecedented destruction of three World Trade Center (WTC) buildings on 9/11 (Douglas 2006, Ryan 2006, Gourley 2007). But despite a number of variations in NIST’s story, it never considered explosives or pyrotechnic materials in any of its hypotheses. This omission is at odds with several other striking facts; first, the requirement of the national standard for fire investigation (NFPA 921), which calls for testing related to thermite and other pyrotechnics, and second, the extensive experience NIST investigators have with explosive and thermite materials." --  For more on WTC7 see....9/11 - WTC7

Tyranny on Display at the Republican Convention
A quote...."St. Paul is a window into our future. It is a future where, as one protester told me by phone, “people have been pepper-gassed, thrown on the ground by police who had drawn their weapons, had their documents seized and their tattoos photographed before being taken away to jail.” It is a future where illegal house raids are carried out. It is a future where vans containing heavily armed paramilitary units circle and film protesters. It is a future where, as the protester said, “people have been pulled from cars because their license plates were on a database and handcuffed, thrown in the back of a squad car and then watched as their vehicles were ransacked and their personal possessions from computers to literature seized.” It is a future where constitutional rights mean nothing and where lawful dissent is branded a form of terrorism. Is it the 1930s all over again? By William Bowles
Must Read - A quote...."The parallels with the situation in Europe prior to the outbreak of WWII surely cannot be avoided, for not only do we have an economic crisis that closely resembles the ‘29 Crash in its magnitude, the US-engineered invasion of South Ossetia could very well be a prelude to more dangerous provocations on the part of the US, in much the same way that German support for the fascist coup in Spain served as a testing ground not only for Hitler’s military machine but also to sew chaos and to test the reactions of two of the leading imperialist powers of the time, Britain and France. For what they all shared was a hatred of Bolshevism and ultimately, that’s what WWII was really all about, the destruction of the Soviet Union." -- Also posted at Uruknet -- For more on this issue see....Effective Fed Funds Rate 03-24-07 - mpg

Not only has the Council on Foreign Relations spread its pages wide open for an infamous interventionist -- a lying and deceitful enabler of the Bush administration's illegal, immoral unprovoked invasion of Iraq - it also readmitted Ms. Rice without requiring anything resembling a mea culpa for the crimes against humanity that have lowered her, the Bush administration and the United States to the depths of moral disrepute around the world."

Why Do Neocons Wish for Another Cold War?
A quote...."The neocons and military-industrial complex are closely connected by a food chain; the former creating demand for weapons by inciting wars, the latter providing positions and huge projects. Until now, over $100 billion dollars have been invested as a development cost for a missile defense system, and additional expenses are estimated to be a few hundred billion. Bush Extends 9/11 National Emergency Yet Again
A quote....

Notice: Continuation of the National Emergency with Respect to Certain Terrorist Attacks

Consistent with section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency I declared on September 14, 2001, in Proclamation 7463, with respect to the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center, New York, New York, the Pentagon, and aboard United Airlines flight 93, and the continuing and immediate threat of further attacks on the United States.

Because the terrorist threat continues, the national emergency declared on September 14, 2001, and the powers and authorities adopted to deal with that emergency, must continue in effect beyond September 14, 2008. Therefore, I am continuing in effect for an additional year the national emergency I declared on September 14, 2001, with respect to the terrorist threat.

This notice shall be published in the Federal Register and transmitted to the Congress.

Attempted Statutory Immunity For The Executive's War Crimes.
A quote...."Based on fairly extensive readings from about 2002-2003 until today, it seems pretty clear that people who were responsible for or committed torture were well aware from the get - go that what they were doing constituted crimes.  That realization is why CIA officials, from 2002 to 2006 or 2007 demanded memoranda, from the Office of Legal Counsel of the Department of Justice, falsely claiming that the abuse and torture were not criminal acts.  The officials wanted these OLC memos so that they could later avoid or defeat prosecutions by claiming that the decisionmaking office of the DOJ had approved the legality of what they were doing.  The officials wanted a “golden shield,” a “get out of jail free card.”

Law shopping.....it's exactly what the Bush administration did with the so-called "intelligence" they gathered to support their various war efforts, they shopped around till they found what they wanted and in some cases paid people to give it to them.

Extensively searching around for somebody who got their law degree in the mail - or it's equivalent - than pressuring them or offering them benefits while requesting a "favorable interpretation" of the law which directly contradicts the law's intentions, literally turning it on its head, is not only useless for a defense against charges of torture and murder, it's childishly immature and completely asinine, not to mention making any person who supplied such fraudulent interpretations criminally liable for the same crimes as the perpetrators. -

Must Read - A quote...."The "War on Terror" is a brutal and criminal enterprise launched by George W. Bush and fully supported by John McCain and Barack Obama, both of whom have pledged not only to continue its deadly operations but to expand them to new killing fields. Iran, Pakistan, Russia's "soft underbelly" in the Caucasus – these and other regions have been moved into the cross-hairs of the voracious war machine that drives the foreign policy of both parties. And of course, the countless "covert ops" carried out by the plethora of secret armies and agents of Washington's hydra-headed "security organs" will likewise continue unabated. --  Three nations have already been destroyed (or driven into further ruin) by the Terror War: Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia.
