A point of order on Dr Fernando Cheung's comments. He states that Hong Kong's "basic law" allows the nomination of candidates by direct vote.  He's flat out wrong. 

The central government of China very carefully, and very particularly, wrote that section so they could prevent candidates, sponsored by foreign governments, from attaining office and initiating actions to divide Hong Kong from the mainland.

Please note, Dr Cheung specifically stated the movement wasn't about "economics", that the only issue was the nomination of candidates by direct vote.
 
As such the main demand by the "Umbrella Movement" to vitiate this section of the law, and it was known at the time they made it, is and was, utterly insuperable to the Chinese government.  (unacceptable and insurmountable).

Not to mention the fact the "Umbrella Movement" and its members have received over a decade's worth of training, funding, and logistical support from the very same Neo-libs / Neo-cons who brought the world those wonderful "color" movements in Libya, Syria and Ukraine.  Movements that have resulted in the absolute devastation of those former nation states. 

This website editor sees absolutely no purpose in having such a calamity be visited upon the peoples of Hong Kong, all in an effort to wrest the power of who gets to nominate political candidates from the central government of China, just so it can be handed over to the likes of Goldman Sachs / CitiBank / JPMorganChase / IMF & World Bank. - mpg

A head being offered to occupy central??

Both Ryan Dawson and Pepe Escobar would disagree with the term "Color Revolution".

They believe the protestors in this revolution have legitimate grievances, therefore, according to them, the protest in Hong Kong is not a "Color Revolution".  Grievances which Pepe Escobar has extensively covered in this and prior interviews. Among them the fact Hong Kong is run by six oligarchs, that Hong Kong is a company run town, that the young in Hong Kong are living under increasingly oppressive circumstances, that they're facing increasingly difficult economic conditions. 

So?  The same has been said -- correctly -- about every single other movement that resulted in a color revolution!! 

Ryan Dawson stated the movement was "hijacked" by "outside" forces.  Again, another statement that has been said -- wrongly -- about every single other movement that resulted in a color revolution!!

As it turns out, many of these revolutions were extensively funded and encouraged for years, even decades by the US-NRE's intelligence services or NGO's. --  More importantly, the leaders of these revolutions in almost all cases were vetted, groomed, hand-picked, than bribed, compromised, corrupted and/or simply convinced they'd be part of the new government structure under the US-NRE's auspices.

Exactly as happened in Hong Kong.  According to many people, adn the articles and vieos they've posted, the US-NRE's NGO's were meeting with, training, advising, and funding the leaders of this revolution for the last ten years!  George Soros was involved! Paul Wolfowitz was involved!

The only people that were missing from this particular well-timed demonstration was Victoria Nuland, handing out fortune cookies to the protestors!

Without a doubt, many protest leaders of these "color Revolutions" have convinced themselves that the foreign forces they've affiliated themselves with are actually working for them, that these foreign forces are assisting them with their plans, that they control their own destinies and that of their revolutions. 

No doubt did many of the protest leaders in Egypt, Libya, Afghanistan, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Ukraine and North Africa think the very same. -- We can all see the terrible results

Just how many more times do these incredibly destructive, almost identical scenarios, have to be played out in country after country, before people begin to realize legitimate grievances do NOT necessarily lead to legitimate leaders, legitimate protests, or legitimate revolutions?

By the way, one of the people deeply in involved in all of these shenanigans, and getting richly rewarded for his labors, is none other than Paul Wolfowitz. -- Yep, that's right, another trans-national, Euro-Kazarian, Israeli Firster, fellow traveling, PNAC'ing, former head Bankster of the World Bank, AIPAC/Israeli, Neocon.  -- Folks are you getting tired of these people yet?  Or, perhaps  you're a truly twisted masochist and you want even more?  Just remember that when you go down to the polls this November,  Don't vote for ANYONE who's taken money from AIPAC. - mpg

China has responded appropriately and the attempt by foreign powers to provoke another Ukrainian situation, with all of its disastrous consequences for the people of Hong Kong, and the people of China, has been thwarted....for now. 

What the Chinese government, and people, are going to do about "Central Occupy's" insuperable demand that they (read western financial interests) get to select the Chief Executive of Hong Kong through a direct election is still pending however.

A demand the Western sponsored leadership of Occupy Central KNEW would be unacceptable to the Chinese Government when they first thought of it (or much more likely, when it was first suggested to them), a demand they also KNEW was in direct contravention to the Basic Law.  A position the Chinese government made abundantly and repeatedly clear when the Basic Law was first established.

Q.E.D. this sudden spontaneous (read foreign sponsored, funded, coordinated, timed and totally scripted) public relations exercise was specifically, and SOLELY designed to provoke a confrontation with the Chinese government, and NOT to resolve any underlying grievances . 

That said, since the demand is insuperable and cannot be agreed to, perhaps the best and obvious course of action for the Chinese government will be to quickly address, as reasonably as possible given the demands of the rest of China's population, the citizens of Hong Kong's underlying grievances, to reduce the political "fuel" for these foreign sponsored protests. - mpg

Pepe Escobar was spot-on, James Metzl was a Neocon/Neoliberal tool.  Every time Mr Metzl self-righteously spoke about the "peoples" rights and "democracy" this website editor shuddered and kept thinking of all the other countries the US-NRE and apologetic tools like him have "helped" into an early grave just over the last decade alone. All the nations deliberately and sadistically riven, shattered, and destroyed, the millions of people murdered, and this man's contemptible, arrogant, dismissive, utterly blase attitude along with his platitudes that the US-NRE is not, and was not, directly involved in organizing and staging "occupy central's" demonstrations. -- Let's make three things perfectly clear......

1. There is enormous amounts evidence, some of it already publicly acknowledged by the very agencies and institutions in the US-NRE who participated in this affair, and freely available on the web, that the ENTIRE "occupy central" leadership was trained, financed, organized and instructed for years by various US-NRE NGO's, assorted think tanks, and a variety of official agencies of the US-NRE's government.
2. Had Hong Kong descended into chaos, had thousands of people been killed in the streets, had Hong Kong been utterly destroyed, which actually was the objective of these NGO's and their minions, every one of the people involved would have been delighted, including Mr. Metzl, who would have happily gone on a highly profitable world wide speaking tour decrying the perfidious, evil, Chinese, while he and his fellow travelers would have been secretly gloating at another job well done.
3. Everything Pepe Escobar stated about the legitimate demands and grievances of the residents of Hong Kong, and their growing unhappiness, rang absolutely true to this website editor. - mpg

Let's be candid here, obviously the Anglo-Sphere's corporate mass-media has grossly exaggerated the "paid triad gangsters" participation in these counter-demonstrations. 

That said, it would not surprise this website editor if some members of the Hong Kong business community, currently losing lots of money because of these demonstrations, with the potential to lose everything if this situation winds up like all the other "Color Revolutions" or Arab Springs" the US-NRE and Britain have facilitated, didn't take matters into their own hands and hire some enforcers of their own.

After all, if Victoria Nuland can spend over a decade and five billion Amerikan tax dollars indoctrinating and training a bunch of faux-Nazi storm-troupers, associated foreign mercenaries, and even a gang of murdering snipers who gunned down eighty to ninety demonstrators and policemen in order to destroy Ukraine and its former government, why can't the local Hong Kong business community hire a little local color of their own to even things out and prevent such possible scenarios of destruction.

Obviously it's a bad idea, this website editor disapproves of it, and is worried that, as has happened in many places, particularly in South and Central America, such "right wing" privately financed enforcement squads can quickly get out of hand and transform themselves into murder for hire death squads.

This is a totally true statement, as are those in the rest of the article.  And yet....just as the legitimate discontent of the peoples in Egypt, Libya, Syria, and Ukraine, were used against them, so to will be the legitimate discontent of the peoples in Hong Kong. 

The Hong Kong "Occupy Central" movement was OBVIOUSLY organized, financed, directed, trained  and timely launched by the very same US-NRE/Euro-Kazarian Neo-Liberals this author decries in his article. -- It's too slick, too well planned, and way too eerily similar to all the other "Color Revolutions" and "Arab Springs" carried out by these people. 

It's straight from Madison Avenue. It bears the same exact stench as all their other faux-rebellions, it follows the same well worn script as all their other "spontaneous revolutions", it's taken right out of their theatrical play book of how to stage a "peoples' coup".

From such foreign backed, foreign inspired, malevolent, conspiracies, implemented by these trans-national foreign organizations for their own dark purposes, you cannot create democracies.  From such an evil seed, you cannot grow a viable, productive, tree of freedom to harvest the fruit of liberty, you can only grow something twisted, malignant, and monstrous, something that bears the poisonous fruit of utter betrayal, bitter disappointment, and opportunities forever lost.

This website editor believes in democracy....true democracy.  This movement was sponsored by the usual suspects and isn't intended to result in a true democracy.  China isn't interested in true democracy because they firmly believe it'll quickly turn into faux-democracy, and unleash forces that will rip China apart. 

Which is PRECISELY what the supporters of this movement intend. It's simply another "Color Revolution", another "Arab Spring".  In the end, Hong Kong could wind up looking like Libya. 

That may, or may not happen, but what this website editor can guarantee, seeing how gullible these students are, how easily manipulated they are, is that there will never be a democracy in Hong Kong even if they "succeed". Not a good idea and exactly what those who are sponsoring this movement want. This website editor does not agree with the use of violence, especially against peaceful demonstrators.  There are A LOT of other options such as negotiation, economic pressure, counter-demonstrations, and exposure of who's actually backing this movement. If the US-NRE can spend five billion dollars recruiting and training a bunch of faux-Nazis to overthrow the Ukranian government, The Chinese government, and other concerned stake holders with their trillions of dollars should be able to create and maintain an effective opposition to these sorts of foreign sponsored shenanigans  - mpg
