No More! How long before we act? -- Article posted at ICH
Must Read - A quote...."   When are we going to rise up and defend what is ours?  --  We have done the work. We have born the weight of the effort it has taken to earn all that has been accomplished in the communities that make up this nation. We have stood in lines for handouts, we have carried the loads, lifted the boxes, built the cars, fed the hungry, raised the roofs, dug the ditches, cared for the sick, policed our streets, and educated our children – and we have done so in spite of their attempts to control us by taking away the funds, taking away the resources, taxing our efforts and limiting the freedom to be human beings that care by creating laws and regulations that do nothing except bind us and box us into a corner so they can pretend we don’t exist in an effort to feel a little less afraid.

Beware of Big Ideas
A quote...."But if Americans need to dump the bankrupted Big Ideas and face reality, the rest of world shouldn't embrace the false new Big Ideas. American interests and values will not remain predominant forever. But neither are there any indications that there is any other global power, whether it's China or the European Union, that is ready to serve as new hegemon and replace democracy and capitalism with new models for managing power and creating wealth. --
At best, these other powers as well as other states are embracing their own variants of democracy and capitalism based on their unique national conditions, while demanding more influence in the international system." -- The best of all possible worlds....a multi-polar one. - mpg

New president won't tame executive power

Obama floats economic plan: tax breaks and austerity
A quote...."Economists universally acknowledge that the latest proposal to inject $250 billion directly into the banks, coming on the heels of the Federal Reserve’s pumping of hundreds of billions of dollars more in liquidity into the financial sector, will at best prevent the seizing up of credit markets. It will not prevent the continuing downward spiral of the so-called real economy, resulting in millions of job losses and a sharp decline in the living standards of the great majority of the population. -- Under these conditions, the proposals put forward by Obama are striking above all in their timidity and inadequacy in the face of the worst economic crisis confronting American and world capitalism since the Great Depression of the 1930s."

Lacking an Accord On Troops, U.S. and Iraq Seek a Plan B
A quote...."Negotiators have been stuck for months on the question of legal jurisdiction over U.S. troops and immunity for possible crimes. But even if the sides reach a deal in the next few days or weeks, it is not clear that a formal status-of-forces agreement could be approved by the end of the year. Maliki has pledged to submit an accord to Iraq's divided parliament before he signs it -- a promise he reaffirmed last week during a visit to Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, Iraq's most influential Shiite cleric. Sistani has said he will not endorse any document without the support of Iraq's population and political factions." -- Disgusting isn't it? NSA Tapped 9/11 Hijackers' Phone Calls for 2 Years - Inside the U.S.

Most of what I wrote about involved the NSA and other intelligence services tapping top Al Qaeda operatives' phone calls outside the U.S. However, it turns out that the NSA was also tapping the hijackers' phone calls inside the U.S. Specifically, hijackers Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi lived in San Diego, California, for 2 years before 9/11. Keynesianism's Last Stand
Must Read - A quote...."

The new Keynesianism is Keynesianism for bankers. The logic of the new version is this:

1. Banks lend to businesses.
2. Banks lend to other banks.
3. Loss of confidence by bankers regarding bankers has shut down the international credit markets.
4. Governments must run deficits to bail out banks.
5. Central banks should expand the monetary base to liquify frozen banking assets.
6. Banks will then lend to businesses.
7. Businesses will employ workers (consumers).
8. Any government money to consumers will be minimal.

This is the Keynesian version of what used to be ridiculed by liberals as trickle-down economics. It is hailed today as the solution to the credit crisis. The $700 billion bailout of the banks in the United States and the weekend bailout of European banks by European governments constitute the largest Keynesian stimulus package in history. But it was a stimulus of a unique kind: to bail out banks.. -- bold/underline by website editor. -- This is totally spot on point, tax the little guy, or worse, since he doesn't have any money, borrow from everyone, than give the money to the big guys....it's voodoo-reaganomics all over again. - mpg

More recent events should not be allowed to obscure the reality that the news media played a pivotal role in stampeding the country into a bailout that was unwise and unjust."

China Is No Friend of the United States

Judging from the decision of the plenary session “to support agriculture,” the Shanghai group lost in the debate. -- Hence, a round of resignations in the Chinese government is likely to happen in the nearest future. Commentaries by Chinese officials support this conclusion. “National economy is capable of maintaining stable development,” but only under the condition that domestic demand will grow, the representative of China’s Central Bank declared on Monday. Therefore, the government’s main objective now is to reduce the percentage of exports in the country’s GDP, because one of the most important importers of Chinese exports is the United States of America, whose financial system is crashing. So what will happen now? Will China pull out its trillions and will the U.S. dollar collapse? Not so fast."

Marx, Globalization, and the Death of Neo-Liberalism
Special Note - A quote...."The western banking crisis is an historic event on two counts. First it demonstrates that Karl Marx is again relevant and that his analysis of capitalist society is not quite ready for the dustbin of history. Second, state intervention to save the banks and the free market from itself undermine whatever remaining legitimacy there is in the intellectual foundations of neo-liberalism, setting the stage for a new vision of the world in ways that have not been seen since the 1930s. -- Nearly a generation ago after the collapse of Soviet Marxism writers such as Francis Fukuyma proclaimed in The End of History that western capitalism had won. More specifically, writers such as him and later Thomas Friedman in The World is Flat heralded that free markets had emerged as the winner in the Cold War and that the future was one of less government intervention in the economy in an increasingly globalized capitalist economy."  --  Remember when reading Marx however the famous old Russian proverb....."Everything Marx told us about communism was false. The Trojan Horses Of Our Demise: Reconnecting To The Moral Sense
Must Read - A quote...."Arrogance. Married to arrogance, ignorance can kill. After World War II, we out-produced the world. American “know-how” we said. We forgot we had conquered a continent, committed our own holocaust/genocide, robbed the natives and generations of Blacks. The Brits collapsed in the Middle East and the French pulled out of Indochina and we said, We are “can-do” people; we’ll do it! Nixon went off the gold standard and abrogated the Bretton Woods agreements that had knitted the economic fabric of the post-war world. God’s chosen people, we destroyed Vietnam to save it. Calvin’s God had made us wealthy and Wilson had bequeathed his mission to make the world safe for democracy. We slaughtered a coupla million “gooks,” fertilized the “killing fields” of Kampuchea. We crushed rebellions in Central America and Chile. We killed a million in Iraq and stomped on Palestine. And when the blowback came and the twin towers crumbled like Samson’s pillars, the boy-emperor stood on the rubble and said we would make them pay. And the men who had lost friends and brothers chanted like a deranged Greek chorus: “USA! USA! USA!” "

The God That Failed: The 30-Year Lie of the Market Cult
Must Read - A quote...."Perhaps the most striking fact revealed by the global financial crash -- or rather, by the reaction to it -- is the staggering, astonishing, gargantuan amount of money that the governments of the world have at their command. -- In just a matter of days, we have seen literally trillions of dollars offered to the financial services sector by national treasuries and central banks across the globe. Britain alone has put $1 trillion at the disposal of the bankers, traders, lenders and speculators; and this has been surpassed by the total package of public money that Washington is shoveling into the financial furnaces of Wall Street and the banks. These radical efforts are being replicated on a slightly smaller scale in France, Germany, Italy, Russia and many other countries. -- The effectiveness of this unprecedented transfer of wealth from ordinary citizens to the top tiers of the business world remains to be seen. It will certainly insulate the very rich from the consequences of their own greed and folly and fraud; but it is not at all clear how much these measures will shield the vast majority of people from the catastrophe that has been visited upon them by the elite. -- But putting aside for a moment the actual intent, details and results of the global bailout offers, it is their very extent that shocks, and shows -- in a stark, harsh, all-revealing light -- the brutal disdain with which the national governments of the world's "leading democracies" have treated their own citizens for decades."

In the world of finance, derivatives might be comparable to the theoretical study of linear particle acceleration in nuclear physics. Such theories appear to be “understood” mainly based on current assumptions accepted in academic circles, often with little provable working knowledge of how such currently-held theories might ultimately manifest themselves over the long run in the real world. The Next Derivatives Bloodbath: Insurance and Auto Makers
Red Financial Warning  -- A quote...."This essay is about future derivatives problems. But before we look to the future, let's recap what happened yesterday, to gain some perspective. -- Post-Game Analysis on Lehman -- As the Washington Post writes today about yesterday's auction of some $400 billion dollars in credit default swaps for Lehman:

'If we see defaults from the standpoint that protection sellers don't pay up, then we're going to have a huge problem in the market,' Telpner said. 'But we don't have any explicit evidence indicating that sellers ultimately are not going to be able to pay the amounts owed to buyers.'

And the Sunday Times writes today:

"The valuation leaves the insurers of the debt a bill of about $365 billion. It is not clear whether the insurers, which are required to settle the bill in the next two weeks, will be able to pay – a development that could further undermine increasingly stressed capital markets." -- bold by website editor

John McCain: I Am an Arab and a Decent Man
A quote....

"Enough is enough!" -- Washington D.C. - October 11, 2008 -"We are disturbed by the degree to which 'Arab' has become the metaphorical mud to sling against your opponent. This week, for example the Republican Jewish Coalition released a document in which they use the term Pro-Arab as a pejorative accusation. For his part, Rush Limbaugh has joined in by declaring that Obama is in fact an Arab American. Then, on Friday, after a supporter called Senator Barak Obama "an Arab", Senator John McCain came to the defense of of his political opponent by saying, "No, ma'am. If the Russian government sticks to value investing, picks very carefully and isn't monumentally stupid or corrupt (same thing) they can not only force the speculative shorts out (within reason, this move should only be to acquire stocks at devalued prices while pricing in for the possibility of a severe world wide recession and not to impose a short squeeze), they'll have some good stocks for their pension fund. - mpg

Just think about it this way, the "Savings & Loan" crisis of 1982 and the fall of the US housing market (caused by the exact same financial mechanics as has occurred in the current crisis, debt instruments like junk bonds, etc., unsupported by any real underlying economic assets or fundamentals) took about two and a half years to reach bottom and resulted in 800 bank failures.  This crisis, which is greater by an order of magnitude or two, is only one year old and has so far resulted in just 10 bank failures....we have a very, very, long way to go. - mpg

Obama Threatens Dire Consequences if Iran Doesn't Change its Ways
Special Note -- A quote...."U.S. Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama told an audience at the second U.S. presidential debate on Tuesday that he would deliver a tough and direct message to Iran that if they did not change their behavior there would be dire consequences."

Full Quote: "We need to talk with our enemies that if they don't change behavior, there will be dire consequences. It may not work, but when we take that approach, we have a better chance at better outcomes."

Nothing's changed at all, absolutely nothing.  The PNAC Protocols are still in effect, the ten year economic cycle is still on track, if either "Bombs Away O-bomb-a" or Mad Dog McCain" are selected as president, the US will be at war with Iran in one to three years.

If on the other hand Iran is able to obtain ten or twenty nuclear devices there is a small chance they'll be able survive as an independent nation state. If not, they won't, instead they'll be ripped asunder by US, Saudi Arabian and Israeli sponsored "terror groups", torn apart by US, Saudi Arabian and Israeli sponsored civil wars and attacked from the air as has been the case for Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan, Palestine and Pakistan.....it's that simple.

Whatever excuses have to be manufactured, up to and including a "false flag" event such as a nuclear or biological attack against an American city, will be carried out even if these excuses have to be staged as poorly and as obviously as 9/11 was.

These three countries who comprise the "axis of evil", the US (now known as the NRE), Israel, and Saudi Arabia (in actuallty the Saudi Royal Family) cannot and will not tolerate an independent nation state which is not subject to US or Israeli polices, a state which is not part of the "club" and therefore as has happened to so many other states throughout the world, Iran must be destroyed and brought to heel as thoroughly as they are attempting to do to Iraq.

The elites in this country also know there must be another war of some sort arranged to boost the US economy when it reaches the bottom of its current economic cycle in one to two years.  Simply stealing from the treasury, no matter how much is stolen, is insufficient to increase our elites' "asset valuations".

No exceptions, no mercy, no pity and no quarter will be shown. Millions will die; millions more will live in agony.  This dismal outcome is inevitable unless the American people vote for someone other than those on the Obama/McCain ticket.  It's time to choose. - mpg

Among the primary reasons for the near impossibility of talking about any subject that actually matters is the fact that the overwhelming majority of people are entirely comfortable existing on a steady diet of lies -- lies about the genuine nature of the U.S. government's actions, lies about "the good guy" American, lies about the ruling class, lies about racism as a core element in America's history...the lies are endless, and most people swallow all of them."

Standing alongside the hubris that brought down the financial edifices of Bear Stearns and Goldman Sachs is the foreign policy corollary: the triumphalism of the neoconservatives, who imagined that American military power could solve all the world's problems: or, at least, most of our own. They sneered at the "declinists," like Paul Kennedy, who pointed to "imperial overstretch" as the cause of our impending economic and geopolitical demise."

Without a Trace: The Smokeless Gun of Flagrant Election Fixing
Must Read - A quote...."The idea of "victimless crimes" has been around for a long time, but the ultra-modern 21st century has given us a bold new concept: perpetratorless crimes. -- This is by now a familiar dynamic: Outright, undeniable crimes are committed, often very heinous ones -- mass murder, military aggression, torture, vast financial corruption and fraud, warrantless spying, egregious violations of the Constitution -- but somehow, no one is actually responsible for them. They just sort of, you know, happened, all by themselves. -- The most we can possibly do about these crimes is to conduct a non-binding "investigation" -- preferably by a committee of "serious" Establishment figures -- who will then offer suggestions on how to avoid such unseemly situations in the future. Of course, most of the time it would be too "divisive," too "partisan," to do even that much. But in any case, you certainly can't prosecute anyone for these crimes."

Tomgram: Anand Gopal, Who Rules Afghanistan?
A quote...."It is far clearer now, as American economic power visibly crumbles, that rather than a victor and a vanquished there were two great power losers in the Cold War. The weaker, the Soviet Union, simply imploded first, while the U.S., enwreathed in a rhetoric of triumphalism and self-congratulation, was far more slowly making its way toward the exit. Seldom mentioned here, however, is a grotesque irony: as the U.S. seems to be experiencing the beginning stages of its imperial implosion, it is also -- as the Soviet Union was in the 1980s -- enmired in a war without end in Afghanistan against a ragtag army of Afghan insurgents supported by foreign jihadist volunteers."

Behind the Panic: Financial Warfare and the Future of Global Bank Power
A quote...."What’s clear from the behavior of European financial markets over the past two weeks is that the dramatic stories of financial meltdown and panic are deliberately being used by certain influential factions in and outside the EU to shape the future face of global banking in the wake of the US sub-prime and Asset-Backed Security (ABS) debacle. The most interesting development in recent days has been the unified and strong position of the German Chancellor, Finance Minister, Bundesbank and coalition Government, all opposing an American-style EU Superfund bank bailout. Meanwhile Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson pursues his Crony Capitalism to the detriment of the nation and benefit of his cronies in the financial world. It’s an explosive cocktail that need not have been." -- Also posted at Creative-i

Bernanke running out of ammo

By participating in yesterday's global round of short-term interest rate cuts, US Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke cannot be said to have been guilty of this offense. Instead, what he has done is to close the barn door after the cows have escaped, been captured down the road by cattle rustlers, then sold, slaughtered and ground up into dog food chunks."

The Russians get on message
A quote...."I thought is was strange that they thought that "most of her [Russia's] customers" would use the euro as a common currency, which means that they do NOT think that the Chinese would be most of her customers, even though they are right next door, they outnumber Europeans 2-to-1, and they have almost no consumer debt. -- So I thought that was a little strange; but it got spooky when they wrote the line, "the age of the dollar draws to a close", as my heart withered in fear and I suddenly mistrusted everyone around me, but before I could ask them to explain such a remark, it suddenly made sense when they went on, "It is surely unnatural for two geographical neighbors to do such large volumes of business using the currency of a distant and now ailing nation." Oops! They're right! We're freaking doomed!

The Financial Woes Signal the Death of the Dollar?
A quote...."Historically, economic crises are designed to redistribute the wealth and consolidate it in fewer hands. Therefore, the rich becomes richer and the money masters expand their grasp on the ownership of the world. -- It does not take an economic genius to realize that an economy based on debt cannot survive in the long term. Despite people’s frantic consumerism, and their magical expectation that money grows on trees, the reality is that debts only lead to bankruptcies, and financial Armageddon. -- However the elite and the money masters know this fact too well, therefore, just like in the 1930s’ depression, the rich always gets richer because they can afford to gobble up all of the businesses that go under for a fraction of the actual cost, hold on to it for a while, then, flood the market with it, which will lead to increase in prices and tremendous profits for them."

Eliot's Mess
From the History File -- A quote...."By Greg Palast -- 14 Mar 2008 --The $200 billion bail-out for predator banks and Spitzer charges are intimately linked  While New York Governor Eliot Spitzer was paying an ‘escort’ $4,300 in a hotel room in Washington, just down the road, George Bush’s new Federal Reserve Board Chairman, Ben Bernanke, was secretly handing over $200 billion in a tryst with mortgage bank industry speculators. Both acts were wanton, wicked and lewd. But there’s a BIG difference. The Governor was using his own checkbook. Bush’s man Bernanke was using ours. This week, Bernanke’s Fed, for the first time in its history, loaned a selected coterie of banks one-fifth of a trillion dollars to guarantee these banks’ mortgage-backed junk bonds. The deluge of public loot was an eye-popping windfall to the very banking predators who have brought two million families to the brink of foreclosure.
